About The Healthy Forest Alliance

The Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring forest and landscape health, reducing wildfire risk, and supporting the people and communities who steward fire-adapted environments. Rooted in science, experience, and collaboration, the Foundation advances practical, on-the-ground solutions that strengthen ecosystems while protecting lives, property, and critical infrastructure.

Fire is a natural and essential ecological process. Decades of fire exclusion, changing land-use patterns, and a warming climate have contributed to hazardous fuel buildup and increasingly severe wildfires. The Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation works to bridge the gap between policy, planning, and implementation—helping ensure that beneficial fire and proactive land stewardship are applied safely, responsibly, and at meaningful scale.

Our work focuses on ecosystem resilience through prescribed fire, cultural burning partnerships, and complementary vegetation management practices. We support landowners, communities, fire practitioners, and partner organizations by building capacity, reducing barriers to implementation, and promoting best practices aligned with nationally recognized standards. Collaboration across public agencies, nonprofits, tribes, and private landowners is central to achieving lasting, landscape-scale impact.

Education and workforce support are core to our mission. The Foundation invests in current and future fire practitioners through scholarships, equipment access, and training support, helping cultivate a skilled, safety-focused workforce. We also provide public education and resources that improve understanding of wildfire risk reduction and the critical role of proactive land management.

Through collaboration, stewardship, and a commitment to good fire, the Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation is helping restore balance to fire-adapted ecosystems and build a more resilient future for communities and landscapes nationwide.

About Our Programs & Initiatives

The Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation delivers integrated programs that strengthen landscapes, communities, and the people who care for them. Our work centers on restoring fire-adapted ecosystems while building a skilled, diverse, and well-supported fire practitioner workforce.

Our Fire Practitioner Training & Education programs provide high-quality wildland and prescribed fire training aligned with nationally recognized standards. Through hands-on courses, skills days, and continuing education, we help practitioners gain the knowledge, experience, and credentials needed to work safely and effectively on the fireline and on planned burns.

Through Prescribed Fire Planning & Implementation, we partner with landowners, community groups, and local organizations to design and carry out low-intensity burns that reduce hazardous fuels, improve forest health, and reintroduce beneficial fire to the landscape. These projects also serve as critical training opportunities, pairing real-world experience with mentorship.

Our Equipment & PPE Access Programs reduce barriers to participation by providing loaner personal protective equipment, tools, radios, weather kits, and other essential resources. This ensures that cost is not a limiting factor for qualified individuals seeking to train or contribute.

The Fire Practitioner Scholarship Fund expands access by covering training costs for students, volunteers, and early-career professionals, helping grow the next generation of fire leaders.

Together, these programs form a comprehensive ecosystem—supporting education, experience, safety, and access—so communities can live with fire responsibly, resiliently, and sustainably.
