Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation Purchases UTV with Skid-Mounted Pump Through Founder Donation

Truckee, CA — The Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation (HFA) announces the purchase of a Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) equipped with a professional-grade skid-mounted pump system, made possible through a generous personal donation from the Foundation’s Founder and Executive Director, Richard Carvalho.

This strategic equipment investment strengthens the Foundation’s operational capabilities for prescribed fire implementation, training exercises, and wildfire response support. The UTV and skid-mounted pump unit will enhance mobility in remote terrain, improve water delivery efficiency, and expand rapid-response capacity during controlled burn operations.

“Access to the right equipment directly impacts safety and effectiveness on the fireline,” said Carvalho. “This UTV and pump system will allow our teams to move quickly, support ignition operations, reinforce holding resources, and provide critical water where it’s needed most.”

The skid-mounted pump configuration includes:

  • High-pressure wildland pump system

  • Water tank and hose reel assembly

  • Quick-deploy hose fittings and adapters

  • Mobile access for narrow roads and off-road terrain

  • Rapid response capability for prescribed fire and training events

The addition of this equipment enhances the Foundation’s ability to support prescribed burn associations, workforce development programs, and hands-on fire practitioner training aligned with national wildland fire standards.

By investing in mobile water handling resources, the Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation continues to expand its infrastructure for safe, science-based prescribed fire and wildfire resilience initiatives. The UTV platform will be integrated into field trainings, cooperative burn projects, and community resilience efforts.

The Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation remains committed to strengthening communities through good fire by investing in equipment, training, and partnerships that build long-term wildfire preparedness.
