Supporting the Central Coast Prescribed Burn Association Foresters TREX Collaboration

Through the Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation and the Good Fire Training Network (www.good-fire-training.org), we were proud to assist the Central Coast Prescribed Burn Association during the Foresters TREX (Training Exchange).

TREX events provide immersive, field-based learning environments where participants build qualifications while actively implementing prescribed fire. Our role included training coordination, operational support, mentorship, and helping ensure alignment with nationally recognized wildland fire standards.

During the Foresters TREX, participants engaged in burn plan review, weather interpretation, operational briefings, ignition operations, holding assignments, and after-action evaluations. Foresters, burn bosses, and fire practitioners worked side-by-side—strengthening both technical skill and interagency collaboration.

We supported task book opportunities, reinforced LCES and risk management systems, and helped coordinate qualified personnel and equipment resources. The result was not only successful prescribed fire implementation, but meaningful workforce development for forestry professionals seeking to integrate fire into land management practices.

By assisting the Central Coast PBA with the Foresters TREX, we helped expand prescribed fire capacity across the region—building stronger partnerships between foresters, community burn associations, and trained fire practitioners.

This collaboration reflects our broader mission: grow qualified leadership, strengthen operational safety, and support community-driven efforts to safely restore good fire to fire-adapted landscapes.
