Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation Announces Formation and Funding of the Good Fire Training Network

Truckee, CA — The Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation (HFA) proudly announces the formal launch and funding of the Good Fire Training Network, a national initiative designed to strengthen wildfire resilience by expanding access to high-quality wildland and prescribed fire training.

The Good Fire Training Network was created to build a scalable, standards-aligned training ecosystem that supports fire practitioners, prescribed burn associations, agencies, nonprofits, and community leaders. Through direct financial support and organizational development provided by the Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation, the Network will increase access to professional education, hands-on field experience, and safety-focused certification pathways.

“The Good Fire Training Network represents the next evolution in workforce development for prescribed and wildland fire,” said Richard Carvalho, Founder and Executive Director of the Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation. “We are investing in people — building competency, leadership, and capacity at the local and regional level so communities can safely and effectively implement good fire.”

The Good Fire Training Network will focus on:

  • Delivering nationally aligned wildland and prescribed fire courses

  • Supporting task book initiation and qualification pathways

  • Hosting field-based training and live fire learning opportunities

  • Expanding instructor development and mentorship programs

  • Providing coordinated training resources to emerging burn associations

The Network is structured to support both entry-level and advanced fire practitioners, helping create clear progression pathways from foundational coursework to leadership roles in prescribed fire implementation.

Funding from the Healthy Forest Alliance Foundation will support curriculum development, instructor coordination, training logistics, scholarships, and digital infrastructure to ensure equitable access to high-quality education. The initiative also reinforces the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening community-led fire stewardship and building long-term wildfire resilience.

The Good Fire Training Network is designed to serve as a collaborative platform — bringing together practitioners, agencies, landowners, and partner organizations under a shared mission: advancing safe, science-based prescribed fire and professional excellence in wildland fire management.

More information about the Good Fire Training Network will be available at www.good-fire-training.org.
