Request for Qualifications (RFQ): NWCG Training Unit Instructor (Independent Contractor)

Healthy Forest Alliance

Healthy Forest Alliance is seeking qualified Independent Contractors to serve as NWCG Training Unit Instructors for upcoming wildland firefighting and fire management training programs. The selected instructors will play a critical role in delivering NWCG-certified courses, ensuring all training is conducted in compliance with NWCG standards and guidelines.

Scope of Work:

Serve as a Unit Instructor for NWCG-certified courses, adhering to all NWCG guidelines and requirements.
Assist the Lead Instructor in developing and delivering course content, practical exercises, and field-based training sessions.
Provide clear and concise instruction to participants, ensuring comprehension of course materials.
Collaborate with the training team to plan, execute, and evaluate the training curriculum.
Support the assessment of participant performance and provide constructive feedback.
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, and evaluations.
Stay up-to-date on NWCG standards, training updates, and wildfire industry best practices.
Qualifications:
Interested instructors must provide the following to be considered for selection:

Certification as a current NWSA-Qualified Unit Instructor for NWCG courses (e.g., S-130/S-190, S-215, S-390, or other applicable courses).
Must be a current NWCG Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1).
Formal instructional certification or training (e.g., State fire training certificate, college teacher’s credential, college education courses, NWCG M-410 Facilitative Instructor course) and at least 40 hours of successful fire service instruction.
Extensive experience in wildland firefighting operations and/or fire management.
Must be a current Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2).
Familiarity with NWCG training standards, fire behavior, suppression tactics, and safety protocols.
Strong communication and instructional skills, with the ability to engage a diverse audience.
Ability to work collaboratively with Lead Instructors and other team members.
Current Red Card (preferred).
Willingness and ability to travel to training locations as required.
