PRESCRIBED FIRE PRACTITIONER EXPIENCE RECORDS

The Prescribed Fire Practitioner Burn Experience Tracking Database is a valuable tool designed to help fire practitioners monitor and record their prescribed fire experiences. This database allows practitioners to track details such as the type of burn, location, weather conditions, and outcomes. By documenting their burn experiences, practitioners can gain insights into their progress, identify areas for improvement, and demonstrate their expertise to potential employers or collaborators. The database also serves as a valuable resource for researchers, land managers, and policymakers, providing valuable data for analyzing fire trends, improving fire management practices, and informing policy decisions. Overall, the Prescribed Fire Practitioner Burn Experience Tracking Database plays a crucial role in supporting the professional development and advancement of fire practitioners while contributing to the broader understanding and management of fire landscapes.

INCIDENT QUALIFICATION CARDS

Red card is the colloquial name for the “incident qualification card” which is a national credential that identifies the holder as qualified to perform in one or more of scores of positions on wildfire incidents managed by all federal and state wildland fire agencies, and many fire departments in wildfire prone areas. It indicates the holder has met standards set forth by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) for the position(s) identified on the card, or is a trainee for certain positions.

The NWSA Database Storage System is a national database, recognized by agencies and administered by NWSA. It tracks firefighter, instructors, company training and certifications. Based on data in the NWSA system. Once the training and certifications are verified, the Healthy Fire Alliance issues Incident Qualification Cards to participating members on an annual basis. Only an NWSA-recognized instructor can input data into the system.

The Healthy Forest Alliance Acts as the Training Officer for all of our Employees and Volunteer Members.

Currency Requirement: For positions identified in the PMS 310-1, the maximum time for maintaining currency is 3 years for air operations, faller and dispatch positions. All other positions have a 5-year currency. Currency for a position can be maintained by successful performance in positions identified in the PMS 310-1.

NWSA will only accept NWCG courses taught by approved training providers. A list of the approved training providers by regions.

POSITION TASK BOOK ADMINISTRATION

NWCG position task books (PTBs) are a key component of the qualification process for specific NWCG positions. The PTB provides an observable, measurable, and standardized means to evaluate and document trainee proficiency. Successful completion of all tasks required of the position, as determined by an evaluator, shall be the basis for recommending certification. Evaluators are encouraged to look at the individual in terms of the competencies and behaviors and not focus solely on weather the trainee can perform each task. Accurate completion of PTBs is important to the position qualification process

  • The Healthy Forest Alliance will be responsible for Initiating and Certification of our Employees & Volunteer Members.

  • Agency employees can complete the Task Blocks, Evaluation Record and Verification/Certifications sections of a contractor’s employee PTB.

  • Agency employees

will not initiate or complete the certification section of the PTB for non-agency

    employees.

  • A PTB is valid for three years from the date of initiation. Upon documentation of the first evaluation record, the three-year time limit is reset from that new date.

  • If the PTB expired, a new PTB will need to be initiated.
